At TKHC, our Mathematics curriculum is designed to equip all students with the necessary skills, insights, and academic prowess to engage with future developments in the field of mathematics. We aim to provide our students with essential mathematical competencies that will serve them in their academic pursuits and daily lives.
Foundation Years Programme
The Foundation Years Programme in Mathematics caters to lower secondary students, aiming to build foundational skills and knowledge that foster future academic growth across various disciplines. In Grades 7 and 8, our curriculum centers around engaging and relevant mathematical concepts that satisfy students’ needs, thereby stimulating their interest in core principles. Through real-world applications, students discover the practical relevance of mathematics in their everyday lives. They are encouraged to leverage this knowledge, utilizing ICT tools to analyze information, model scenarios, and tackle diverse problem-solving challenges. These skills have far-reaching implications across numerous fields.
International GCSE Programme
Designed for middle school students, the International GCSE Programme in Mathematics helps develop a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts and techniques. This foundation prepares students for further studies in International AL or IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) Mathematics and related areas. In Grades 9 and 10, students engage enthusiastically with mathematical concepts, gaining confidence in their problem-solving abilities through two distinct courses: Mathematics (Specification A) and Further Pure Mathematics.
All TKHC students are required to study Mathematics (Specification A), a tiered course that enables every learner to progress in their mathematical studies while ensuring a solid grasp of the subject. Further Pure Mathematics is offered as an optional course, allowing students to challenge themselves based on their individual study plans. This course provides an advanced foundation for those pursuing mathematics at higher levels.
Advanced Studies in Grades 11 and 12
In Grades 11 and 12, students have the opportunity to pursue either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or A-Level qualifications. Within the IBDP framework, mathematics is a mandatory component with two pathways: Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (Math AA) and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations (Math AI), each available at Higher Level and Standard Level.
For A-Level students, the International A-Level (iAL) Mathematics course is offered as an optional subject, encompassing six comprehensive modules. High-achieving students may also engage in self-study, supported by faculty, to complete two additional mathematics modules to earn the credential of iAL Pure Mathematics in lieu of iAL Mathematics. Alternatively, students can pursue additional self-study for six further modules to achieve the iAL Further Mathematics qualification alongside their iAL Mathematics.
At TKHC, we commit to preparing our students for the challenges of the 21st century by fostering critical and creative thinking, mathematical inquiry, and reasoning skills. Our curriculum empowers students to effectively apply mathematical principles to solve real-life problems, thereby enriching their academic experiences and daily lives. Our students are equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st Century by cultivating their critical and creative thinking, mathematical inquiry and reasoning skills, and the ability to use mathematics to solve problems in their daily lives and surroundings.
