Apart from Music and Drama, we are one of the few schools in Hong Kong to also offer a core Dance programme to our students. We believe that it is important to offer a platform for students to share their joy and express their passion and creativity through movements. We also believe that dance not only energises students but also acts as a medium for people to be connected and share happiness in the community.
Through the dance programme, students can develop basic dance knowledge and skills. Students will also understand the culture and history of dance around the world through research and projects.
In both Grade 7 and 8, students have a chance to learn the dance techniques of jazz, contemporary, street dances, folk dance, and ballroom/social dances at an introductory level. With what has been learnt, students can improvise and have a taste of basic dance choreography. Students are also invited to complete research about a type of dance of their own choice to be presented at the end of the term. Students do not only explore the skills of dancing: they also build up their confidence through performing and are equipped with skills to collaborate, communicate and present ideas through the research and presentations of the history and background of dances. These are all invaluable skills that will prepare students for the future.
As a proverb says, “When you can walk, you can dance.” At TKHC, we continually strive to cultivate students’ interest in a wider variety of aspects and to offer different channels for our students to express creatively, and the dance programme is just one of those avenues.
