Modern Foreign Languages

“A different language is a different vision of life” – Federico Fellini With the acceleration of globalisation in today’s fast-paced world, the ability to speak different languages has never been so crucial.

The G7-G8 Foundation Years Programme in Modern Foreign Languages is designed to encourage our students to develop a taste for foreign languages. By offering them French, Spanish and Japanese, we are aiming at developing curious linguists who will be able to communicate in another language and love discovering new cultures. Our curriculum provides students with a strong focus on building cultural understanding and cultural intelligence through studying and exposure to customs and traditions they are not familiar with. This will prove invaluable in their future as a citizen of the “global village”.

All our students study French, Spanish and Japanese in Grade 7 on a carousel. This will enable students to experience all the modern foreign languages we offer.

In Grade 8, the students choose to study any one of these until the end of the school year. They are guided in their choice and advised by their teachers depending on their interests, abilities and future plans.

At TKHC, Modern Foreign Languages are taught in designated language classrooms by highly experienced members of staff, including two native speakers from France and Ecuador, who focus on developing oral skills. The teachers use cutting-edge technology to promote cultural awareness and communication skills, which are valuable in so many aspects of a pupil’s development. Our staff use interactive whiteboards, as well as learning applications such as Quizlet, Mary Glasgow and the latest digital resources to support learning, both in and out of the classroom.
